From Design to “DE$IGN” … or “D€SIGN” works too (smile).

Earlier this week I spoke at TED on a few observations I’ve been making about the business value of design as my design adventure progresses into its third month. I’ve been asked when the TED talk will be available online — I do not know that information unfortunately. In any case, it was nice to get a chance to speak to my love of donuts, the Bauhaus, and a few challenges in moving industry perceptions and attitudes towards design as about being just a pretty face, and instead seeing the strategic value of design that leads to higher performance in a product, service, and idea. The primary driving thesis was an article I wrote for the WSJ on "Three Principles for Using Design Successfully."

My talk was primarily centered around the W Coast, but there’s tons and tons of great design and venture work all across the US, including the fine leadership work in NY by Ben, Tina, and Craig. When the TED talk finally posts, I’ll make sure to put it up on this blog. A couple of the slides I made are attached above. -JM
